Day 1 - Motivated in March 2020!

Today is Day 1 of my quest to remain motivated and on track to achieving my goals.

I have 3 goals for the month of March:

  1. Lose weight through fasting
  2. Meditate for at least 5 minutes each day
  3. Log the experience (including video logs! scary!)
I started fasting on Leap Day - February 29th, 2020 - at approximately 6:30 p.m. EST. I also weighed myself shortly after starting the fast, to get my starting weight.

It's been over 24 hours of fasting, and I have already lost 5 pounds!

I'm using Fastient to track my fast.

I drink Berkey water, I have the Travel Berkey. I don't actually travel with it, it sits on my counter above my sink. I love the taste of Berkey water, and I use it to cook with, for my espresso machine, and for my drinking water and my pets' drinking water.

I also drink hot tea, La Croix, and Dr. Jason Fung's Pique Fasting Tea (I drink the Ginger Green Fasting Tea and the Matcha Green Fasting tea, I haven't ordered the Cinnamon Herbal Fasting Tea, but when I run out, I want to try it).

For electrolytes, I will either add the Lemonade Ultima Hydrating Electrolyte Powder to my water, or I will drink Snake Juice.

My plan is to fast as long as I feel okay, for at least 72 hours, but no longer than 7 days. I will initially break each fast with Athletic Greens (I just ordered Athletic Greens for the first time this weekend and should arrive sometime this week), and then a half hour later will eat a healthy meal.

After a healthy meal (whole food plant-based, no refined sugar, limited starches), I will roll into the next fast.

During the month of March, there are a few days where I have family visiting and there are also a couple of social obligations I must attend, all of which involve food. For those days, I will ensure that I adhere to a small eating window of 4 to 6 hours per day. After that's done, I will get back on track with fasting.

My goal is to lose as much weight as I can during the month of March while still feeling good.

I will meditate first thing in the morning for 5 minutes each day. If I forget, I will meditate right after work or before going to bed at night.

It's my hope that documenting my experience will help hold me accountable.

Stay tuned!
